before treatment

Avoid the sun or tanning 14 days prior to treatment. Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, cream, oils, topical anesthetics, or self-tanning products before treatment. If you have a history of perioral herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for a facial vein treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.

during the procedure

Treatment takes place in our comfortable setting. Skin must be "squeaky clean!" prior to treatment, and you will wear protective eye wear to protect you from the laser's light. Our practitioner will use a small handpiece to guide the laser, and each laser pulse may be preceded/followed with a short pulse of cooling spray. Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This resolves in several seconds and we provide an optional cooling system at the end of your treatment to minimize your discomfort. For some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used.Your treatment may take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area and condition being treated.

after treatment

Avoid sun exposure to the treated areas by applying sunblock SPF 30+ at all times throughout the course of treatment. A cool washcloth may be applied for comfort, and any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours. Lastly, do not scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers.
